COVID 19 FAQs for International Students

Fall intakes are the largest in all the universities across the globe. The admission results are declared by the month of March or April. It is usually followed by jubilation, travels and  getting prepared to study offshore. Covid 19 pandemic abruptly aborted this normal course of action. There were many students who had approached us with their queries and we tried to mitigate their anxieties to the best of our knowledge. Listed down are few of the most frequently asked questions by anxious students and their parents.

  1. Considering the pandemic will the universities globally reopen by Fall 2020?
  • Most universities plan to reopen in Fall 2020 for the new academic session. However, it is university specific, and if you have accepted or are already enrolled in one, the administration will keep you informed well in advance.
  1. Will learning be entirely virtual?
  • Universities are considering several modes of instructions for Fall 2020 which include full on campus, online lectures as well a mixed or hybrid approach. Some have already made the decision while some will by July.
  1. My board exams and their results are uncertain. Should I still accept and start the procedure of university enrollment?
  • Universities have made changes in their offers, conditions and documentation requirement to deal with this particular issue.
  1. I have been accepted at couple of universities. How do I make the final decision?

  1. Should we delay paying the university deposit to see how things roll out?
  • Most of the universities have already extended their deadlines to give time to students to consider various factors. Beyond the new dates, their flexibility is highly subjective.
  1. Can I defer my admission due to the pandemic?
  • Each university has its own procedure for considering the application of deferment. All the applications are reviewed on a case to case basis.
  1. I had applied as a freshman for Fall 2020 but was not admitted. Do the admission requirements change due to the pandemic? Will my application be reconsidered?
  • Admission criteria will not change for the Fall 2020 intake. If the decision has been made, most likely the university will not review it again.
  1. The SAT exams I was planning to take got cancelled due to Covid19. Will I still need to take them for Fall 2021 admissions?
  • Many universities have relaxed this requirement for Fall 2021 intake considering the challenges prospective students may face. However, if the circumstances are favorable, we advise taking one in coming months.
  1. Do I still need to submit my TOEFL score to the university? Is the requirement waived off?
  • Universities which required TOEFL or IELTS scores as a proof of English proficiency will require you to demonstrate it. These exams can be now given from the comfort of your home. Check with the testing agency for more details.
  1. If my university resumes in Fall 2020, is it safe for me to travel under these circumstances?
  • Travel norms will change once restrictions on international travel are lifted. But before you make your decision, would advice you to understand your university operations in detail and read the student insurance fine print minutely so that you are well informed.
